Heydar Aliyev’s first visit to Shusha was 14 January 1982 for the opening of Vagif”s tomb. Heydar Aliyev’s second visit to Shusha was in the end of July 1982, along with family members as promised. During the visit he took part Vagif’s poetry days, as well as several facilities – in the opening ceremony of Green Pharmacy, Natavan bust, Carpet Museum, Art Gallery, House of Poetry etc.
Heydar Aliyev remembered an episode occurred during the second visit to Shusha: “At the time of event 90-year-old, respected and the playful elder of Shusha Dagh Ismail slowly approached the podium, but the security guards did not let him. But Heydar Aliyev, who always pays attention to people saw this incident. After the event he said to the elder: “The elder, come close to me, do you have words for me?”

 
Uncle Ismail came to him and said: ” Mr.Heydar, welcome to Shusha. Please, come often but do not come empty-handed. Allocate money for carrying out construction, renovation work in Shusha”.

Heydar Aliyev merrily replied: “I love this town. Therefore, I have come up with my family to Shusha.
